Oh my gosh! It’s the first day of class at UC Irvine and there is so much happening!
So I was totally meant to publish a breakdown on the new student fees that the Regents looked at in September, but things have been so crazy, I didn’t have time to really write it down. So unfortunately, it looks like that will have to wait until Tuesday night.
But to let you in on the craziness that is UC Irvine, and many of the other UCs this week –
- All the UCs are doing their Voter Registration drive this week! UC Irvine has already registered 1000 students in one day – but is still a long shot from UCSB, who has already registered 2800 students in two days! For the record, UCSB has consistently registered 10,000 students every year for the past two years – making them the top campus to beat (in the nation, maybe) in terms of political mobilization.
- All the UCs are helping get their freshmen adjusted and ready – and to get involved in campus organizations. UC Irvine’s Anteater BBQ was going crazy today from 11-3pm, and is ready to go all over again for the next week! (Special note: ASUCI is doing our recruitment for Student Government on Thursday, 11:30-3pm, Student Center)
- UC Irvine got a new Executive Vice President (head of student activism and political advocacy for our student government) – her name is Sarah Bana, she is a fourth year and you can read her accomplishments here: http://www.asuci.uci.edu/legislative/legislations/print.php?cnum=R45-01
And finally, for all of ya’ll who don’t attend UC Irvine or particularly interested in Student Government events – I wanted to go ahead and post Yudof’s comments that he made during the Regents meeting last week. You can also find them online at Mark Yudof’s Youtube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/UCofficeofpresident, or you can see the written version below. It defends fee increases, the furlough days, addresses the faculty walkouts, and more exciting stuff!
