Thank Yous, Tough Days

The Office of the Student Regent just wanted to express our thanks for the entire UC community, people on the internets, blogs, and media that showed us love this week.  It was one of the hardest weeks that I’ve ever faced, and we really appreciate the support here.  A couple of particular shoutouts:

UC Student Association – for their leadership during this difficult time with the students at the protest

Daily Bruin, Daily Cal – For their coverage of the protest and speaking to us throughout the time of the Regents meeting.

NPR 89.3 KPCC – Pat Morrison and her team in particular, for her amazing coverage of the the UC system, speaking to Victor Sanchez and I on multiple occassions, we really do thank you.

LA Times, OC Register, NY Times, NY MetBlog, OC Reggie – For their coverage of our blog and our twitters, helping get the protest and the cause out there to the public. – for your mentorship with new media, and of course, your continual support of student activism, whereever in the world.  we really appreciated your help and your support.

Students who were at the protest, and at protests around the UC – Thank you for being active and showing the pain of these budget cuts to the public and to the media of the state.  It’s important that we do this, and that we encourage our leaders to consider these actions heavily and with weight.

Again, it’s been one of the hardest weeks of my life.  It will get harder, fee increases have now passed, butthe state budget is now looking at a 21billion dollar deficit for next year.  In another budget fight, the UC cannot afford to lose any more, this is the time we must take a stand.  if we don’t, fee increases, furloughs, and everything else imaginable is back on the table.  Definitely looking toward the students for the leadership and the courage to push forward through this time.  Much love to all of you, and I hope to hear from you all soon!
