Liveblog: Committee of Grounds&Building + Finance

10:40AM So that was public comment!  We’re moving on to UCSF’s Medical Center at Mission Bay…to new Chancellor Desmond Hellman.  The hospital will cost 1.5billion dollars.  The defense of doing it in bad economic times – it’ll never be cheaper to build, and it’ll be good for the city.

This will join their two other hospitals, on Parnausses Heights and Mt. Zion sites.

The hospital will have the only helipad in SF – which I could see as relatively important, to be real.  We need quick response in the city for healthcare.  The medical center will also include a children’s hospital.  The project was projected out for 2billion dollars – and that cost was dropped by almost 25%.

The Medical Center will accumlate 700m in debt, also use the hospital’s equity, almost 600m in gift funds (recently, there was a 100m anonymous pledge), and no state funding.  None at all.  Dang.
