Gubernatorial candidates to support higher education funding

California College Democrats launched a non-partisan petition last fall to ask candidates running for Governor to take a pledge to support increased funding for public higher education. The petition and text of the pledge are online here:

The pledge has been sent beyond the Gubernatorial candidates to all state offices involved in setting higher ed policy: Governor, Lt. Governor, and Superintendent of Public Instruction (SPI).
Over the last few weeks candidates have signed on to the pledge. Tom Torlakson, the current frontrunner for SPI, has signed it (see photos below), and Janice Hahn, candidate for LTG, has signed it.
The idea behind creating this pledge was to make higher education a bigger issue in the 2010 election and give students something to hold these candidates accountable for once they are elected.
