Campus 101: UC San Diego’s fleet certified green


UC San Diego’s Fleet Services placed in the 2010 annual Government Green Fleet Awards.  The competition of vehicle-fleet operations is open to all federal, state, and local governments in North America and UC San Diego along with UC Davis were the only two colleges that places.

The competition is judged on various elements of green or sustainable transportation practices such as using hybrid, electric, or alternative-fuel technology, the use of renewable fuels, how the fleet program plans to apply greener technology in the future, the program’s support of recycling programs, etc.  According to UC San Diego’s fleet manager, Jim Ruby, next year, UCSD plans on being ranked in the top 10.  This year, they ranked 22nd.
