The lame duck Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is calling an emergency budget session next week. A noble effort for such a big problem that will soon be Jerry Brown’s burden coming this January. The state is currently in a 6 billion dollar deficit, and is projected to see a 20 billion dollar deficit for 2011-2012 years.
The governor is focusing on long-term reform says assemblyman Mike Gatto. The governator would like to cut down the state’s reliance on income and capital gains. The meeting will also discuss the long-term spending changes in the state prison system in order to provide more money for higher education. During the meeting the governor will discuss ways in which to make the prison system more efficient.
According to Gatto the biggest problem with the government right now is all of the hang-ups and red tape. He said that it takes California 4 years to do what other people do in 18 months.
