University leaders hesitant towards more budget cuts

With Brown’s proposed budget cuts, leaders from California’s higher education systems are preparing possible budget cuts or decreasing some programs and enrollment slots. The leaders are hesitant towards increasing tuition even more after the tuition raise of 10 percent previously. “We raised tuition 10 percent in November,” Reed said, “and I don’t plan on doing it again, except if in June the revenue enhancements that the governor is proposing fail and the whole bottom falls out of everything, we’ll have to come back and revisit that.”

UC-wide holistic admissions approved

The UC Board of Regents recently “voted to encourage a holistic admissions policy for all of its campuses, which means each application will be read by a single reviewer”. First adapted by UCLA, the UC hopes that by having one person review the application, rather than breaking down the application into part to be read by different people, the application process would improve fairness and diversity.
