Students gather at UCSC for Food and Justice Summit
Around 300 students from 40 different college campuses around California recently met in UC Santa Cruz for a fifth annual “Real Food Challenge”, a conference founded in 2007 intended to educate students about the “complex food issues that their generation is inheriting.” During the conference, the students learned about impacts of pesticides, different forms of consumption and dieting, justice for food service workers and leadership skills to help them make a different in their communities.
UC Davis considers more staff cuts
UC Davis is looking into more staff cuts and an increase in non-resident students, who will pay higher tuition, in order to close a budget gap of $107 millions for the coming year. Considering up to 500 job cuts, some of these positions would have to be left vacant in order to fulfill the cuts.
