With events like the Columbine and Virginia Tech shootings in mind, UC Davis campus police decided to start educating students about how to react in the event of a shooting. The emphasis is on escape and evacuation, or to take cover behind a solid barrier. The hope is that students will be better prepared for a situation with an active shooter involved. However, there is some speculation as to whether this type of action may make the situation worse.
